Group Classes

JLC Düsseldorf offers weekly courses in German, English and other languages.

Bambini

Our pre-schoolers make their first encounters with the target language through play – in small, age-appropriate groups, and always with a great deal of fun and joy

Kids

School-age kids discover language anew with us: at the JLC, they experience it not as a mere school subject, but – much more importantly – as a means of communication

Teens

Teens get plenty of room to speak and improve their speaking and expressive skills – in small groups with a relaxed, pressure- and stress-free atmosphere

What’s New

Fall 2022 Group Classes at JLC

After the school break and our JLC summer camps, our regular group classes are running again. Due to our participants’ new school schedules, some of the group times have changed and new groups have been started. Take a look at the current group course list, and book a trial lesson (free of charge and without obligation)!

Our Group Classes

Small groups = high speaking rate!

The kids and teens are divided into groups homogeneous in age and level. The number of participants is a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 8.

In our teaching concept, the communicative aspect stands in the foreground: free speaking, active listening! This way, we supplement school lessons with what is often difficult to implement there for objective reasons, namely:

No grade or performance pressure

Native-speaking instructors

Small groups of 4 to max. 8 kids

Friendly, casual atmosphere

Fun and Joy in Language Learning

The lessons are filled with varied, age-appropriate activities and tasks – we put ourselves in the children’s worlds of interests and do with them what they enjoy and have fun doing – in the target language!

Through the application of our teaching concept, most children notice after a short period of time that the inhibitions they had when using the language gradually fade away, and that they discover (or rediscover) great fun in the language they are learning.

Our Approach

preschoolers language course

Bambini-Groups:

4- to 5-year-olds
5- to 6-year-olds
6- to 7-year-olds

Bambini

Bambini learn with us with all their senses, for example, by combining certain words with a movement. Through this connection of hearing, seeing and feeling, the learning content is absorbed holistically. The children sing, play, clap, stomp, paint or do handicrafts. These different approaches to the foreign language allow a natural, dynamic division of the lesson. Phases of concentration are followed by phases of relaxation; movement games are followed by quiet activities.

The holistic approach focuses not only on practicing a language, but on the whole child. Language is experienced through action, through play, through movement or through perception. Therefore, the children’s feelings, world of experience and wishes are also addressed and taken into account in the language lessons.

Teaching materials: worksheets, hand puppets, audio CDs, play sheets, picture books, music CDs, handicrafts, picture cards, painting, memo cards, experiments for the senses, games for the senses, movement games.

Goal: The children should develop a feeling for a new language in a playful way and without pressure to perform. Memory, concentration, mouth and fine motor skills as well as speech rhythm are trained.

Our concept applies to lessons in English, German as a Foreign Language (DaF), French, Spanish and Italian.

The materials used by our trainers come from renowned publishers such as Cornelsen, Hueber, Klett, Finkenverlag, Verlag an der Ruhr and others.

kids language course

Kids-Groups:

7- to 8-year-olds
9- to 10-year-olds
11- to 12-year-olds

Kids

Kids are introduced to typical forms of teaching without experiencing pure frontal instruction, because we require a lot of initiative and independent learning. The holistic approach also applies to 8- and 12-year-olds. In addition to sensory perception, the use of writing and the training of self-learning techniques come into play. Typical teaching elements such as grammar, sentence structure, listening comprehension, reading skills, text comprehension, pronunciation and written language style are trained. In addition, the competent use of dictionaries, flashcards, posters and games as well as techniques of self and partner control are practiced.

Teaching materials: worksheets, listening CDs, song texts and music CDs, language games, learning posters, short films, writing games, dictionaries, role-playing games.

Goal: The children are introduced to the foreign language in depth; the language ability is successively expanded and an independent learning attitude is practiced. In this way, our language trainers teach responsibility for independent learning.

teens language course

Teens-Groups:

12,5- to 13,5-year-olds
14- to 15-year-olds
15- to 16-year-olds

Teens

Teen classes focus on speaking and expressive skills, as well as vocabulary building, in addition to typical classroom elements. Teens are given plenty of room to speak and thus improve their speaking and expression skills, because our native-speaking trainers listen very carefully. Our trainers work increasingly with methods such as role-playing, discussion rounds, short presentations, film reviews, knowledge quizzes and interviews.

Teaching materials: worksheets, listening CDs, short plays, flashcards, songs and music CDs, language games, learning posters, short films, writing games, media room with computers, materials for free work, dictionaries, role plays.

Objective: The main focus is to give the young people room to speak and to simulate everyday situations in dialogues. The linguistic starting point should be the life world and interests of the adolescents. Through the direct relationship between language and person, the learning content is memorized, which automatically improves the ability to communicate. At the same time, the young people overcome their inhibitions about speaking and enjoy learning a foreign language.
