Preparation for Cambridge English Exams for Young Learners

Starters (ages 6-8.5)
The Starters course is ideal for children beginning at ages 6 to 7 (Starters Year 1) with no previous knowledge of English and 7 to 8.5 (Starters Year 2) with the ability to read and write basic English.
Movers (ages 9-11)
The Movers prep course is suited for young learners ages 9 to 10 with an A-1 level in English and a completed Grade 3 (with 1 year of English) at a German public school or equivalent (Movers Year 1) and ages 10 to 11 with A1+ level in English and a completed Grade 4 (with 2 years of English) at a German public school, or equivalent (Movers Year 2).
Flyers (ages 10.5 to 12.5)
The Flyers course is designed for kids ages approx. 10.5 to 12.5 and an A-2 level in English at the beginning of the Year 1 course.

In 2024, the Junior Language Club Düsseldorf became the official Cambridge Exam Prep Center for young learners.
Currently, for the school year 2025-26, we are launching our first Pilot Groups for two levels: „Starters Year 2″ (ages approx. 7-8) and „Movers Year 1“ (ages 9-10).
In the year 2026-27, we will follow with Starters year 1, Movers Year 2, and with the third Cambridge level as well: Flyers.
The Cambridge prep courses run once weekly with 60-minute lessons over the duration of two school years; each school year is from September through July . The courses follow a clear curriculum that builds confidence, independence, and real English skills.

Unlike our regular group lessons, these are part of an accelerated program aligned with Cambridge English standards.

About the Exam
Startes
This is a 2-year prep program for the Cambridge Exam „Starters.“ Pre-requisites for this are as follows:
Starters Year 1
Ages 6 to 7 with no previous knowledge of English
Pre-Requisites:
Ideally, for the Starters Year Two, your child is approx. 6.5 – 7.5 years old and starting grade 3 in the German school in the same school year.
No previous knowledge of English is required.
Starters Year 2
Ages approx. 8 to 9 who know how to read and write basic English
Pre-Requisites:
Ideally, for the Starters Year Two, your child is approx. 7.5 – 9 years old and starting grade 3 in the German school in 2025. In addition, you child has the following abilities in English:
General abilities – Basic reading and writing
- They have started learning to read and write words and sentences. They don’t need to be able to read texts alone yet.
- Throughout the course, dialogues, songs and texts that appear in the course book will be done as listening activities; however, the kids will need to be able to read words and sentences in order to complete activities in the workbook.
Vocab – basic knowledge of the following:
- Numbers 1-10
- Colors
- School items
- Toys
- Family members
- Animals
- Body parts
- Clothes
- Sports / free time activities
- Transportation vehicles
- Rooms of a house
- Food
Grammar
- Question words (who, what, when, where, why, how)
- Prepositions of place in, on, next to, under, etc.
- Basic adjectives
- “Has got / have got” for possession
- “Can” for ability
- Present continuous (“he is smiling”)
- Present simple (“she lives in a big house”)
These vocab and grammar topics come from the Starters Year One book which the children enrolling in Starters Year Two will be “skipping.”
Most of these vocab topics will be expanded on in year two, so there will be opportunity for revision. Year two will also introduce one or two new topics that complement the ones already covered. HOWEVER, only a couple of the grammar topics will be revised, and the rest will be new topics. So, it is important that they are familiar, or they know the year one topics already.

Movers
This is a 2-year prep program for the Cambridge Exam „Movers.“ Pre-requisites for this are as follows:
Movers Year 1
Ages 9 to 10 with an A-1 level in English and a completed Grade 3 (with 1 year of English) at a German public school (or equivalent).

Ideally, for the Movers Year One, your child is approx. 9 – 10 years old and starting grade 4 in the German school in this year. In addition, you child has the following abilities in English:
General abilities
- Reading and writing simple texts at A1 level.
- Able to speak in sentences and answer simple questions such as “Can you ride a bike? “Yes, I can. / No, I can’t” or “What are you doing? I am taking a photo.”

Registration Process for the 2025-26 Cambridge Exam Prep Classes
Registration is open and only possible via our Registration Form on our website (cf. below). No payment will be required on our website at the time of registration. Once you complete and submit our Registration Form, you will receive an automatically generated email confirming your registration submission.

Course Fees for Cambridge Prep Courses
Course term: 10 months | Mid-September through mid-July 32+1 class sessions total

Early Bird Discount
A special discount will be applied automatically to all registrations received on or before July 31, 2025.
The discounted, Early Bird course fee will amount to 57 € / Mo.
Sibling Discount
An additional discount of 10% will be applied to registrations of siblings (starting with the second registered sibling).
Materials Fees
In addition to various arts, crafts and other supplies that will be provided by us free of charge throughout the school year, the Cambridge Prep Courses are structured around the special prep course books. Each school year will work with a particular course book and a corresponding workbook (total 1 set of 2 books). The materials fee for the school year comprises approx. 50 € (per set). This fee will be payable in full at the beginning of the course.
Cambridge Exam Fee
Although these prep courses are geared toward the respective Cambridge Exam, the actual exam taking is not mandatory. The exam date will be scheduled for the last day of class (cf. Schedule above). The exam registration will be carried out in January.
The Cambridge Exam Fee will amount to 120 €.
Registration Deposit
Once we receive and process your registration, we will send you a confirmation email along with the invoice. A Registration Deposit of 10% of the total course fee (either 57 €, or 64 €, depending on any discounts applied) will be due within 14 days to secure your spot in the group. This deposit is non-refundable and will be credited toward your total course fee.
The remaining balance can be paid in monthly instalments after the course begins.
Late Registration
Late registration for our Cambridge Prep Classes for the school year 2025-26 may be possible provided there remain vacancies in the given groups. In case of late registration, the lessons missed will be subtracted from the calculation and the total course fee will be prorated for the remaining class period (cf. Course Schedule above). Late registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the „Early Bird“ Discount work?
The „Early Bird“ Discount for the Academic Year 2025-26 amounts to approx. 10% of the regular course fee: the course fee is reduced to € 57,00 per month (vs. € 64 / mo.) It applies automatically to all new registraions received before July 15, 2025.
How does the Referral Bonus work?
The new, referred member will have to indicate the name of the current, referring member in the appropriate field on their online JLC Registration Form. Once the new, referred member completes their registration and starts participating in one of our German group classes, a credit of 30 € will appear on their course fee invoice. The referring member will receive their Referral Bonus in the amount of 30 € – this bonus will be credited to their account and either applied to any course fee due or paid out as a bank transfer. (Important: our Referral Bonus is NOT combinable with our Sibling Discount.)
So, here once again step-by-step:
- You are registered in our group class
- You refer us to a friend
- They put your name at the time of their registration in the appropriate field on our Online Registration Form
- They sign up and start attending
- You and our Friend receive a Referral Bonus of 30 € each
Pay-in-Full Course Fee Discount:
When completing your Online Registration Form, you will be given the choice of options as to how you would like to pay your Course fee: monthly or in full. If you choose the latter – the “pay-in-full” option, an additional 5% discount will be applied to your total amount due. This will be reflected in the invoice that will be forwarded to you via email (cf. below).
Is there a sibling discount?
Sibling Discount: A 10% discount will be applied to all sibling registrations (starting with the second child registering).
Is there a demo / trial lesson?
Participation in our Cambridge Prep Courses is possible only upon prior completion of our Registration Form and admittance into the program. However, all our new course participants have the option to withdraw their registration no later than 24 hours after their first lesson. Should this be the case, the invoice will be issued for that one lesson only, and the contract will be cancelled.
Do current participants get a special discount for extending into the next school year?
Yes: our current course participants may pre-register for the following school year at a special discount of approx. 20%. The course fee is reduced to € 50,00 per month (vs. € 64 / mo.) For the school year 2026-27, such Extension Registrations must be received by April 30, 2026.
